Pedestrian Safety

Whenever a major event is held in Galway City’s traffic-clogging Pearse stadium, there is always major traffic congestion. Illegal parking on footpaths is the norm, and is routinely ignored by the Gardai and (by Traffic Wardens, in the unlikely event that any are present). This video shows Gardai on traffic duty immediately after a match at Pearse Stadium on 5th October 2008. Clearly their priority is “traffic flow”, with the safety and convenience of pedestrians being ignored. The Gardai direct a constant stream of traffic at this crossroads, completely ignoring the pedestrians, some of them children, who are trying to cross the road.

Footpath parking is ILLEGAL as well as being very anti-social and anti-pedestrian.

Pedestrians with prams being forced onto the road and mingle with traffic is a common occurrence.
